Joshua Frazer to Represent Team Jamaica at 2018 Central American and Caribbean Sports Games 2018 in Columbia
“Current National Champion in two countries is excited to put challenging year behind him and move a step closer to Olympic Gold in 2020”
TORONTO, ON, July 21, 2018 Brampton, Ontario native and 24 year old Joshua Frazer (69kg), son of former Olympic Boxer Dewith Frazer, will travel to Barranquilla, Columbia to compete for Team Jamaica in the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games this week in the sport of Boxing. The Central American and Caribbean Games are a multi-sport event held every 4 years aiming to promote sports throughout Central America and the Caribbean. Only the Olympics have been going on longer than these games.
“I am excited to be representing Jamaica at these games which will give me an excellent opportunity to test my skills in international competition. The top boxers in the world will be competing at this event and I can’t wait to raise to this next level challenge!”, said Joshua Frazer.
The 23rd edition of the CAC Games will be held from July 19 to August 3, 2018, in Barranquilla, Colombia. 37 Nations and just under 6,000 athletes will take part in these games in sports ranging from Archery to Wrestling.
This will be the second time Joshua Frazer has competed for Jamaica internationally. He is excited to have this opportunity to represent the country in which his Father and Coach was born. In a surprising turn of events 8 months ago that caught the Canadian boxing community off guard coast-to-coast, Joshua Frazer, then Canadian National Champ and voted Best Boxer in this Country, in a politically motivated and unjust scheme was intentionally left off of Team Canada’s international squad that was going to the Commonwealth games in Australia in place of overall lesser qualified competitors. This decision would have prevented Josh from earning points needed to reach the Olympics. A decision was made by the Frazer family to join Team Jamaica.
Joshua, after being forced (from a board room and not a boxing ring) to leave Team Canada’s boxing program, was welcomed with arms wide open by the leadership of Sports Jamaica and promptly won the 2018 Jamaican National Boxing Championship 69kg. “Joshua is a tremendous talent, who really stands out above the rest and we are thrilled to have him here”, said Stephen Jones, President of Jamaica Boxing. Joshua invites fans from any country to visit his website at www.joshuafrazer.com to follow along on his journey.
